What’s my diagnosis?

2023.06.06 03:49 Potential-Thought253 What’s my diagnosis?

What’s my diagnosis?
Hi all, Over a year ago I was diagnosed with oral lichen planus by my periodontist. I had a biopsy done before he diagnosed me. At the time I had white painful patches on my gums and burning sensation. I also had a bit of inflammation on that area. Since that he has had me on steroids on and off and has been treating me for over a year. Today to my surprise he tells me that I don’t have oral lichen planus. I don’t know what to think, when I question him he said he just doesn’t know why he had said that I do. Im attaching the report, what do you guy’s think? Also, if I don’t have that what in the world besides at the time having gingivitis have? How do we explain the white patches, pain and burning sensation? Also, I have Google Gingival hyperplasia and my gums have never looked like that.

2023.06.06 03:43 SubstantialBite788 The Fiend in the Glade

In 1965 I was twelve years old.
My father made the news for killing my mother. He was certain that she had been cheating on him while he was at work, but I don’t see how that was even possible. My mom and I never got any sleep, for my father worked third shift and he would call home every chance he got. If she didn’t answer, she would get punished when he got home. One morning he took it too far. I was already at school when my neighbor came and picked me up during math class. He told me that my father was in jail and that my mother was about to die. There was no subtlety in those days, no sugar-coating the truth. You swallowed it down whole and raw.
I was at my mother’s side when she finally breathed her last. Her face was unrecognizable, swathed in bruises and lacerations. She was unconscious. There were no last words, no ‘I Love You’, no response to my wailing, nothing but a few last gasps of air.
The ‘best interest of the child’ was an alien principle to the inhabitants of the small town I grew up in. Convenience- that’s what mattered. The easiest place to put me was with my grandfather, the father of my father, and there wasn’t much difference between the two. The genetic code that instills in another human being a lack of empathy was prevalent on this side of my family. I had to endure my grandfather blaming my mother for her own death.
“She brought it on herself. If she would have just minded her manners,” he would often say. If it wasn’t that, it was something else derogatory about my mother. There was a snide remark every day. He would throw it in my face. He hated me because I looked less like his son, and more like my mother. With some strange morbid logic applied, I believe he also blamed me. If it wasn’t for me, his son would not be in jail.
I hated the man and I felt that one day it was going to get violent. I may have only been twelve, but Sarge, as he made me call him, was in his eighties and I could have easily pounded the man into oblivion if I really wanted to, and of course, I really wanted to. Sarge- why? Because he said he was a Sergeant in World War I, but I didn’t believe it. I never saw any evidence of that nor seen any photos. If he had been in the Great War, wouldn’t there be something hanging on the wall or on his fireplace mantle? No, he was a liar like my father, wrapped up in a make-believe world, far from the truth of his pitiful reality.
I spent as little time as possible in that house. Most of my days were spent down the road on Mr. Baker’s property, hunting small game like rabbits, dove, and squirrels with my 22-caliber rifle. Mr. Baker was a nice man and I wished I could have lived with him. He didn’t mind me hunting on his land, as long as I stayed away from the forest on the other side of his property. He claimed that there was something not right in those woods. Often, his dog Dolly, a Golden Retriever with an inexhaustible amount of energy, would accompany me on my hunting excursions.
I often came home empty-handed, but there were those days where I became obsessed. I couldn’t leave the field without a quarry, but more importantly, I didn’t want to go back home to that hateful old man. Sometimes, I imagined he was in my sights, that he was the hunted, and I the hunter.
Dolly was not an obedient dog. On some occasions I loved having her around to flush out the underbrush. Other times, she was a colossal pain. I would hunt up to the fence line that split Mr. Baker’s property from the much-maligned forbidden forest he often warned me against. One late afternoon, with nothing shot or killed, I got desperate, and climbed over the barbed-wire fence and trekked down the hill to a patch of bamboo growing by a small dried out streambed. I crossed over to a thick forest of trees, grass, and honeysuckle, abuzz with life, the sounds of insects slicing the air and rodents plowing through the undergrowth. I knew I had found the perfect spot. I spied a little rabbit gnawing on some clover. I slowly pulled my gun up, aiming, ready to shoot, and then Dolly came crashing through like a bulldozer through a flowerbed. The rabbit scurried away, but kept its course straight. I made a hasty, but careful pursuit, trying to be quick but ready to stop and hold still when the opportunity presented itself.
“Damn dog,” I murmured to myself.
“Damn dog,” something ahead repeated.
“Who’s there?” I inquired.
There was nothing but silence. Dolly had stopped about ten feet east from me, refusing to move any further. It seemed darker than normal in this area of the woods. Up ahead was a circle of Juniper trees, and beyond that a glade, an opening in the middle, devoid of life.
The rabbit I was pursuing appeared near the glade. Instinctively I begin to resume my hunt, absorbed in the moment, casually brushing aside the voice I had imagined. The rabbit stopped, I raised my gun, and as I went to squeeze the trigger, I saw the rabbit move into the glade and fall to its side. It’s legs frantically kicking about, as if something had a hold of it and it was struggling for life. Then it stopped, lifeless and staring out of one exposed black eye into the darkness of eternity. I noticed that it wasn’t the only carcass lying about. There were birds, squirrels, and other rabbits strewn across the open landscape. Some skeletal, others partially rotted, and some, like my rabbit, fresh and recently deceased. The smell was thick with putrid, decaying corpses.
Dolly saw the easy prey, her passion overriding her instinct and fear, leapt into the glade and fell on her side, just as the rabbit had done. She began kicking and yelping. Her cries were pitiful, a sad song for help I couldn’t resist. She wasn’t dead yet. Maybe I still had a chance. I crawled up to the edge of the glade, reached in, and grabbed her by the paw. My hand felt icy and stiff, the blood flowing through the veins in my hand felt like powdered glass. I pulled with all my strength.
“Timmy?”
I looked up to see my mother standing in the middle of the glade, beautiful and young, not at all like I had ever seen her in my own young life. She was a teenager, with a wistful smile, and a visible yearning in her eyes, the vision of which spoke to my soul that she missed me, that she wanted me to come to her in the glade. I was ready and willing, leaning more towards her and loosening my grip on Dolly. I felt a comforting warmness in my stomach, and an urge to bring solace to my lonely forsaken mother.
At that very moment a deer sprinted into the glade and stumbled to the ground. Out of nowhere an apple tree had appeared, with fallen apples scattered in abundance around the trunk. It was a vision, a lure dangled by a hunter, a hunter other than me, one with a more mysterious and a much more effective weapon.
I came out of my daze and yanked as hard as I could, pulling Dolly and myself from the invisible web we were entangled in. A part of the earth in the glade opened up like a trap door, and pouncing out like a spider was a creature like a man, crawling on all fours, with two small claw-like appendages extending out from its torso. It had dark skin with standing hair all over its body, like a tarantula. Its face looked human, but with sharp teeth and four red gelatinous eyes.
It would stand like a human and then crawl like a spider. It seemed confused and moved in quick sporadic motions. There was more than enough meat to choose from, but from its gestures I gathered it favored living meat, with blood still circulating. It was looking at the deer, but inching towards me. It was deciding between the easy already provided food, or the much more tastier living food- me.
The creature was walking backwards. Every now and then it would quickly turn its head, peek, and make sure I was still there, all the while backing up towards me. I felt around for my rifle, found it and pulled it up to my shoulder. The creature turned, with outstretched arms and appendages, leapt towards me. I pulled the trigger. One red eye exploded and the creature shrieked and fell outside of the glade. It writhed in pain as if the air outside of the glade was toxic.
I got up and ran away from the glade, calling Dolly after me. She raced past me up the hill and under the barbed wire fence. I glanced back as I was running. I saw the earthen door fall shut. The creature had survived.
I didn’t go hunting, or even go outside, for a few months. I was willing to take the abuse of my grandfather. Many times, I imagined taking Sarge down to the glade and pushing him inside, but his time was already limited. I don’t know how he lived as long as he did, smoking three packs of cigarettes a day. It seems that stubborn evil folk live longer than the rest of us.
Over time temptation got the better of me. I eventually made my way back down to the glade. I missed my mother. It was a calculated risk. I had my gun and if I kept my distance, I would be safe. On several occasions I got to see the vision of my young mother, but in time they became shorter in duration. The creature knew I had figured out its game and would no longer reward me with anymore visions. On the next to the last visit there were no apparitions of my mother. I waited, but nothing. The earthen door lifted. I saw three red eyes peering from the ground.
“I will eat you one day damn dog.”
My last visit to that devilish grotto reveled that the creature had moved on. There was no glade, no empty land, nor an opening in the canopy. The spot was filled with invasive honeysuckle, thick with life and the pleasant aroma of flowers, and yet, it saddened me, because the most beautiful flower of all was gone. Amidst the violence and death, was the forlorn life of my mother.
I am now seventy years old, decrepit and weak, without the use of my legs. Diabetes and heart disease are killing me, but there is another death nearby, one less indifferent and relishing the suffering I am now enduring. It is prolonging my passing, giving me agony and yet giving me hope. I know that the fiend has found me again. The air feels suffocating in my room. The more my heart pumps, the more the circulating blood causes me agonizing pain. I suffer, but I endure because for the last several nights I have seen an apparition of my mother, the dying flower in the middle of the glade.

2023.06.06 03:22 Koechophe OPINION: The biggest thing holding DDO back is monetization

As someone who's played/dipped my toe in a lot of MMOs, DDO's monetization is honestly one of the worst and most frustrating for new players that I've ever seen, primarily because the core functions of it are to make it so new players feel both isolated and frustrated. This game does not excite you to buy things. It is not like, "Look, here's this fun thing you can do if you buy in!" It's much more "Buy in or end up face extreme annoyance.
Quests
Let's start with the obvious issue of quests. The game has a lot of decent content below level ~10. Around there, you start to hit a wall, and by the time you're level 17, you've now got 3 quests to get you all the way to 20, and getting to 30 is a total pipe dream on f2p content alone, as you've got 4 level 21 quests, and then your next quest is a level 26, then two level 28s, then a bunch of 31-32s, all of which will somehow have to account for the millions of EXP points you need.
But that's not even the biggest issue. DDO is a game with a limited playerbase that is further limited because it's stretched between several servers. The game was obviously designed to be ran in groups, with various sections quests having more or less benefit for certain types of characters.
But if you don't own the most recent expansion packs, say goodbye to grouping. Because of the 5-20 LFGs that will be available at any time, a solid 90% of them are always going to be content that f2p players don't own past level 5-6. Sure, you can say, "just bring your own group!" but MMOs are something a lot of people do so they can find new friends. The fact that paywall = well you'd better play this game alone most of the time is going to be a huge quit point for new players.
As a returning player, I own Sharn, MOTU, Gianthold, Delara's, Vale, and Sorrowdusk. Most of the time when I look for groups, my entire screen is full of "you can't play with this group because they're doing a quest you don't own"... and the only times I've ever been able to find them has been in the pay packs I already do have. For a genuinely new player who hasn't sunk tons of money into the game, grouping is pretty much out of the question once they clear things like Water Works. I'll bet most players who buy VIP would still fare badly, since it seems most of the play happens exclusively in expansion packs.
Loot/Economy
But hey, maybe a few new players are willing to deal with having to solo the entire MMO and re-grind the same 3 quests they have for four levels straight. They'll then hit another wall. Unless they are willing to spend at least a bit of money on the game, they can't actually participate in the economy. The game's platinum economy was facing a critical issue when they took money caps out--too much money was coming in, not enough was being spent. So in their infinite wisdom, the people behind monetizing the game decided that they needed to make a real-money auction house instead of the regular platinum one, basically saying "Well, if platinum economy is dying, we're just going to force you to spend money to use the new one."
This is a two-punch. Punch one: Unless you're premium, you can't participate at all, and even then, you have to buy at least a few astral shards, since you need to pay shards to post on the thing in the first place. And because platinum
Punch two: Two people have extreme advantage here--the players who've been playing forever, or the ones who don't care about dumping stupid amounts of money into the game.
So as a new player, you might be saving money, being excited that you've started earning decent amounts finally... only to realize that it's utterly useless beyond a few basic things, and that the only way for you to actually participate in the game's ALREADY stretched economy is to buy your way in. And then you realize, further, that you'd either have to pay a lot, or else buy an expansion because most of the loot anyone would care about is locked behind quests you don't have.
So not only are you going to be questing alone, you're also not going to be involved in a larger economy either.
Power
I've seen so many posts justifying the game's blatant and obvious P2W monetization by saying that it's okay, because this game is mostly PVE and because you can earn things through favor.
First, the favor argument is so ungrounded in reality. First, aside from the initial 900 ddo point infusion you get from running 1 toon to 100 favor on each server, these points accumulate extremely slowly... and even more slowly if you haven't already bought your way in.
Let's say you farm 100 favor on each server, you'd have netted a total of 1125. Then let's say you do literally all of the f2p quests in the game on one account--dozens of hours of work, especially considering you'd have to repeat them all three times to get up to elite, as well as a lot of other repetitions and wilderness areas in order to make your way to the required levels. That's another 350 store points. That's it. total 1475. Not enough for an expansion pack--no, to afford one of those, you'd have to do all of the quests again another ~3 times, which would actually be 9 times each. Unless you TR, but that's a really bad idea since now you need way more EXP and you've still got a pitiful quest pool.
So that's just to start buying some of the quest packs... let alone, other features such as the shared bank for the account, which is both the ONLY way to transfer loot between characters, since everything and its dog is bound-to-account these days, and it's also going to cost you all the DDO points you'd save up from doing the 1st time bonuses + doing an entire run of all the f2p quests on elite.
And if I made it sound too easy... the first time bonuses only come first time, meaning it's going to be much slower from there on out.
For people on the TR hamster wheel who are either VIP or 3rd life +, the issue of opening quests normal, then hard, then elite seems like not a problem, and they can blow past quests in 3-4 minutes. For new players, those same quests might take 30-40 minutes, particularly if they're scrounging crates and optionals because of their extremely limited EXP options. Let alone, having to do that 3 times in a row, possibly more because they have to solo content they've never done before, and might die. And, as an added bonus, people on the TR wheel get such insane buffs from their numerous past lives that they are, again, able to solo things far more easily.
Meaning veteran players can earn points at an 'okay' clip, while new players, especially if they haven't bought in, earn them slower than a snail's pace.
There's an insane amount of direct power to be bought in this game, whether it's universal +8 tomes, 32-point builds (Something f2p players cannot access first life because there isn't enough favor to get them), a huge slew of in-quest boosts, etc. And universal enhancements, in particular, are such a huge source of power that f2p players have 0 access to, since you can never earn enough favor to hit one.
But beyond even directly buying power, all of the normal methods for achieving power are expedited greatly with purchases. TRs give a huge boost, and the game has literally sold "get to 20 and TR instantly!" options. Exp tomes are both expensive and a massive boost to farming speed. Bravery bonuses are basically only there for VIPers or people who already TR'd twice, as well as slayer pots which just raw make it take 3X less to get those rewards. And most every crafting has huge incentives in the store as well.
And when it comes to loot, the best loot is, of course, with the power creep in new expansions, meaning you always have to keep buying if you want the best gear. But even for decent gear, almost all of it is going to come as named drops in the chests, which you can't directly buy, but buying pots to boost the odds, buying rerolls to let you keep trying for it... all of that gives a massive edge to people willing to shell out money. Let alone, the edge that comes from being more powerful, and therefore being able to run things far quicker.
Convenience/Frustration
DDO seems to have the horrible habit of noticing a problem, and then fixing that problem by making you pay for the solution. Inventory management sucks worse than most every game I've ever seen, not in small part due to the gigantic stacks of random items that build into / collect into other things. DDO's solution was to make bags which are almost exclusively paid, since you can only buy one copy of the really small you can get for free. Bank space is premium-locked if you want more. Loot can only be shared between toons if you buy the privilege. Materials storage in the bank is a bought privilege as well.
DDO also noticed an issue where players are spending way too much time running around between NPCs or wildnerness areas to get anywhere, instead of questing. So we've got mounts, which help you get around... but also premium locked.
The game has several quests which are extremely difficult to solo, and probably impossible for new players. They were designed for groups. It also has quests that are often points of frustration. But the game incentivizes saga completions. So players end up frustrated as they try over and over on quests, failing them. But don't worry! you can buy your way past them in the saga too. Because again, noticed a problem and sold, rather than helped, the solution.
DDO shoves the store in your face more often than most every game I've ever seen. Every time I open up the bank, store. Every time I die in a quest, store. Every time I try to recall from the quest, store. It literally begs for money at every turn.
Most games have conveniences that they sell. But at the same time, there's a difference between something that is nice, and something that is either necessary or would require a lot of frustration in order to skip. Making your players put up with outdated, frustrating things just so that a solution can be sold is bad practice, and ends up losing customers rather than gaining money.
Conclusion
If you've made it through this wall of text, congratulations! But main highlights are that DDO's monetization is extremely frustrating and isolating for new players. It is my honest opinion that DDO bleeds customers because of this issue more than any other. The content give codes DO help alleviate those problems a lot... for existing players who happened to be around when they happened. But for every player that tries to join tomorrow onward, all the problems I listed out are still there, and 'favor grinding for points' is nowhere near enough to actually penetrate the wall of content you need to buy to engage with this game.
Existing players can say all they want about how new players CAN just grind past it with stupid amounts of time, or else how new players should just buy in. But the reality is, when most people hit these frustrating paywalls, the reaction is almost always going to be to quit rather than to pay up.
And because of this, a lot of DDO is so dominated by old players who've been doing this forever with massive in-game resources and power, that new player economies, groups, and play experience as a whole suffers. It creates a feedback loop, where no new players = experience sucks for them = new players leave = no new players. And mid-tier players, who might not have as much, but still have maybe 1-2 past lives total, are hit just as hard.

Fighting for Peace: Some Russians Use Faith to Protest Invasion of Ukraine Despite Risks
Small numbers of Russians continue to express their opposition to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on grounds of faith or with the use of religious imagery and quotations — and continue to be detained and fined under Russia’s wartime laws punishing “discrediting” the armed forces.
In Sverdlovsk Region, Eduard Charov criticized the war and the “partial mobilization” on social media, asking “Would Jesus Christ have gone to kill in Ukraine?.” Krasnoufimsk District branch of the Federal Security Service (FSB) found his posts and alerted the Prosecutor’s Office.
A court fined Charov twice on April 18 for both “discreditation” of the armed forces (Administrative Code Article 20.3.3) and “incitement of hatred” towards the state authorities (Administrative Code Article 20.3.1). The fines amounted to one month’s average local wage, though as a pensioner with a wife on a disability pension and residents to support in the shelter he runs, the fines will be a burden…

2023.06.06 02:41 Mongoose1909 Is this petechiae? Awaiting fem-pop bypass (69M)

69M - history of DM2, htn, neovascular glaucoma, hyperlipidemia, prior smoker X15 years (quit 15 years ago), PVD
My dad has severe PVD and on Easter he noticed a small wound on his foot. The podiatrist looked at it and said it is a fissure. He has seen 3 doctors and has had 4 angiograms. The first doctor wasn’t able to get any stents in and recommended bypass. The second doctor said his only option is to wait until it gets worse and then amputation. The 3rd doctor was able to stent the upper leg (3 stents), open the bottom of his leg with one stent, and then tried (unsuccessfully) to open up the top again after it reoccluded about a week after placement. They’ve decided that he will need a bypass from the upper thigh to just below the knee. He is in a lot of pain from his wound. He needs a cardiac clearance before he can undergo the surgery. He has had the echocardiogram done but needs a nuclear stress test that is scheduled for 3 weeks from now. I’ve tried to move it up but they say nothing is available. Over the last week he’s experienced more swelling on the lower leg and foot (particularly his toes) and has developed this rash on his upper leg. This looks similar to how his foot got before his podiatrist told him he needs an urgent appointment to do something because his foot is literally dying. The rash on his foot went away after they placed the stents but now this popped up.
Is this something that can wait? I’ve asked 3 times to be moved up so he can get the surgery sooner just from the pain alone, but they keep telling me that they’re booked. Now this rash popped up and I’m afraid of waiting too long and it gets worse. He is in a lot of pain from the swelling and the wound and is getting very little sleep.

2023.06.06 01:40 google_fu_is_whatIdo I'm sad.

We just had a person get hurt badly on one of the trails I've spent a fair bit of time rebuilding (other side of 600 hours on trail - about 12 hours on this particular feature).
The person injured has 3 broken vertebrae, but thankfully fingers and toes still work. Everything was built well and 'to code'. This is the first time this has happened on one of 'my' features (not the main builder, but fairly heavily involved).
Is this just something to expect and get used to when you build black features?
Thanks for your thoughts.

2023.06.05 23:20 K-Nuggets When are simple classes just too much bloat?

I was suprised at the effort put into reducing the amount of lines of code by some senior developers. This was over the course of handing-off a project from working-prototype to the production team of devs. Not just refactoring to simplify the steps, but rather to reduce the line count as an objective. The argument was "less lines to debug". Fair point. Note that the test coverage was already good.
This idea is the same as the (I would say famous) talk Stop Writing Classes (PyCon2012). I get that the author is making a point, it doesn't need to be a hard line.
I seem to like the overly verbose style of making classes in python. The same goes with dunder methods or even separating the state-dependent methods from their functional/staticmethod equivalent. All 3 concepts add line counts and are not essential, but I find they give more details on the task at hand. e.i.: these are the parameters, this is the sciencey part, this is the main function, this is how you should loop, etc.
Here's a somewhat extreme (too simple) example where I would still see the benefit of these 3 ideas.
class SomeFancyTransform(): def __init__(self, a: float, b: float): self.a = a self.b = b def __call__(self, x: numpy.ndarray) -> numpy.ndarray: return self.fancy_transform(x, self.a, self.b) @staticmethod def fancy_transform(x: numpy.ndarray, a: float, b: float) -> numpy.ndarray: # do something
In a data processing use-case, the hardcoded parameters are up top or maybe loaded from somewhere. (A better example would have more meaningful names too...)
def process_data(data_id: List[int], sqlite_url: str): # setup data_loader = DataLoader(sqlite_url) my_fancy_transform = SomeFancyTransform(1.2, 3.4) another_transform = AnotherTransform(5, 6) # work for x_i in data_loader(data_id): # <-- more dunders: __iter__, __call__ xt_1 = my_fancy_transform(x_i) xt_2 = another_transform(xt_1) yield xt_2
Function calls or the use of functools.partial can replace these classes.
def process_data(data_id: List[int], sqlite_url: str): for ii in data_id: x = load_data(ii, sqlite_url) xt_1 = fancy_transform(x, 1.2, 3.4) xt_2 = another_transform(xt_1, 5, 6) yield xt_2
What's your take? When are simple classes just too much bloat?

StockX sent me two different size shoes and are refusing return (pictures for proof)
First time buying shoes from ScamX and they sent me two different size shoes. The tags on the inside say the same thing but the shoes are physically different sizes. It was obvious to me the second I took them out of the box and had them next to each other. Look at the treads, the squares on the bottom are totally different and lining up the backs of the shoes, the fronts are completely misaligned. They claim it’s the placement of the shoes in the pictures that make them look different. Wondering what you guys think and what I can do because I’m out like $150 and have two different size shoes to show for it.

2023.06.05 22:09 Annuit-bitscoin Craig, noted scholar who reads 10 books a day, gets his story from the movies.

Someone whetted my appetite for the discovery of further Craig-related absurdity & cardinal error by conveniently sending me transcripts derived from the LBC thing. Thank you again, that Someone!
This one really got me:
After rambling incoherently about Keynes for no discernible purpose, other than maybe to make the bizarrely incorrect "point" that Keynes made Britain, and indeed "the West" "Great (by publishing a masterwork in the 30s...?) Craig decides to bail out and start talking about Turing.
HEY DID YOU KNOW THAT Turing's user of "Heil Hitler" as a crib (btw, Craig didn't even say crib, he said "partial cipher"-- OK Craig, sure!) is what allowed him to crack the "Enigma Code" because the Nazis would say it at "the end of absolutely everything they would send"
So... Yeah. That (both elements!) is entirely from the "Imitation Game", a 2014 movie, not, you know, actually real history.
:sigh:

2023.06.05 21:50 Alarming-Ad-4730 [REQUEST] [SWITCH] LoZ: Tears of the Kingdom

So, a little context.
Living with five gamers can be truly, honestly delightful most of the time. This is partially one of those times, but it's also partially a very frustrating situation, all things considered. One of our number got her hands on a copy of the game I'm requesting, and shares it around with the group. This is lovely, I've gotten to play it, it's as good as if not better than everyone says, very fun game. The issue is that of the three of us that are interested in it, one takes it to work on the night shift and forgets/neglects to leave it outside her room so it can be played by others. And the other is waiting for me specifically to beat the game so she can play it, putting pressure on me to hurry up and finish my playthrough so she can start hers.
Thus do I arrive at my actual request for my own personal copy of this game. Being on disability, all of my money goes into rent or else I would simply buy it myself, and if I could get a digital copy to install on the household Switch, the other roommate could simply take the physical copy for her own, solving a lot of problems outright.
Either the full game code or even just a gift card with the partial amount to purchase it, it's expensive I know, would be greatly appreciated. Friend code to follow.

2023.06.05 21:42 UnknownAcolyte78 We all get only one life

We can't be sure that there is an afterlife, nor that there is any reincarnation. We may not be in possession of an immortal soul. This is a question that can leave many of us uncomfortable, and some of us may even become somewhat discouraged at this realization. This kind of consideration can be saved for a later time however. There is no reason to lose hope over this. If you get only one life, be sure to live it well.
This doesn't mean to abandon all principles, do whatever you please and say to others that "You only live once." It is up to you to live your first and only life wisely, because every single moment is precious. Accept every new day as a chance to prove yourself and progress as much as you possibly can, never settling for less. The future will not make itself happen without your effort, so it is up to you to invest yourself fully into getting your desired results and becoming better.
There are some questions that we will never find out, or at least not have much of a chance at figuring out. However, after all the philosophizing and contemplation that mankind has done in the past, we have finally come to only one conclusion. You are in perfect control of your own destiny, it is nobody else's but yours. Therefore, you must assume responsibility for everything you do and everything you say. Never take half measures and never put in only a partial effort. This is what the Sith code teaches, to take full authority over yourself and keep pushing even against what other people tell you.
There may not be a glorious result and an enthralling future for you, but this is not because destiny has refused you it's best gifts. This is because you did not put in the best possible effort. Take your life into your own hands, and experience both the energy of working fiendishly for your goals and the reward of enjoying the result, whatever it may be. You will not be screwed over if the dedication is there and the will is unshakeable.
So make the absolute best of your life, and indulge in the experiences and challenges that you desire. Nobody can decide but you. Time is so valuable yet limited, so the rational response is not to wait for it to get you what you desire, but rather to invest yourself fully into the present moment. Make your first and only life one worth living.

2023.06.05 21:42 emptydesignmill The provider did treatment even though Insurance denied Pre Auth (USA)

Hope you all are doing well. We are based in California, USA. My wife has been undergoing active cancer treatment since Jun'22 and we have never had any issues pertaining to her health coverage from the provider or insurance for receiving standard treatment. As I understand, the provider submits a prior authorization to the insurance. Once the prior auth is approved, we go ahead with the scheduling. This system has worked well with our Medical Oncology and Surgery teams.
However, it seems our radiation team submitted the prior auth for 4 weeks of XRT + 1 week of boost in Jan'23. Apparently, the prior auth for 1 week of boost was denied. Our provider never flagged this. My wife went for her radiation appointments as scheduled in March'23.
Now, even though my wife has met her out-of-pocket maximum, the provider's bill has an outstanding balance. The provider billing department says STILL we need to pay for the boost treatment (~$1000) as insurance denied it. Insurance says they informed the provider about the denial back in Jan'23 but the provider still went ahead and did the treatment and hence they denied it.
We were hoping for your thoughts as to what should be our next steps. We do understand as insurance denied coverage it is not considered as a part of MOOP. However, we think as my wife received standard care and the provider never flagged this we shouldn't be paying for this. Thank you in advance for your time and suggestions.
Age: 37, zipcode:92122, Income: $95k yearly
UPDATE # Thanks to lollipopfiend123 for suggestions to resolve the issue. We found out that the Provider is submitting incorrect CPT codes from an earlier PreAuth request - which was denied. I am working with Provider to submit correct CPT codes (for the treatment my wife received) to the insurance.

2023.06.05 21:22 Seeyouon_otherside The Isolationists - Chapter 33: Into Home Turf

Memory Transcription Subject: Captain Vajartav, Kolshian Commonwealth Fleet Command
I stared out into the ethereal, shifting darkness of subspace from the viewport of the Deliverance, musing on the break in the unchanging war against the Zeyzell. Information had leaked through that the nearest of their major colonies, Pydoria Rusarth, had suddenly been left undefended after its defense fleet was redirected to the front lines. The predators must be getting desperate if they were leaving a planet that was so important to their morale up for grabs. Taking this colony would not only be their first major victory against the despicable predators, but the loss of the planet, the site of the first battle and victory against those bumbling fools would strike a huge blow to their morale.
I pulled up the list of schematics for the upcoming invasion. Countless vials of the Cure were stored in every single one of the couple thousand ships Nikonous had sent hurtling towards this colony. The research vessel that had captured those predators had done well, although they continued to run into trouble with those “Deathwatch Guards.” We needed to find a way around their genetic defenses as quickly as possible. If the predators could harden genetic code against unauthorized tampering for some of themselves, they could do the same for all of themselves as well.
“Captain!” the navigator called. “We’re approaching the planet now!”
“Ready weapons,” I ordered. “Today marks the beginning of the end of the Zeyzell Unity! We will cure them of their disgusting meat-eating habits for good, starting here and now!”
Everyone on the bridge cheered as they made their preparations for the coming conflict. I blinked as the stars of realspace winked back into view. We’d dropped out of subspace on the edge of the small star system, with Pydoria Rusarth only about half-an-hour away. The predators were smart enough to have left their subspace disruptors on, as we’d expected, but the colony was nevertheless severely undefended. Only a dozen support vessels, a Carrier, and a Weapons Platform still hung in orbit.
“Sublight engines, full power!” I ordered.
Our fleet surged forward as the pitiful defense fleet turned to face us. The Carrier released its swarmfighters that I knew would be ripped to shreds the moment the battle started. The minutes dragged on agonizingly slowly as the colony grew larger in my viewport.
“Ten minutes!” the navigator called.
As we drew closer, something peculiar happened. One of the enemy warships broke formation and burned away from the colony. Then another, and another. A few still held formation and charged their railguns. They were fools.
“We’re in range of the fleet, Captain!”
“Open fire,” I said calmly.
Not one of the defenders were able to get a single shot off before they were reduced to scattered atoms and the few remaining swarmfighters that weren’t caught in the line of fire went dormant immediately, their director killed before it could do a damn thing.
“I want ten ships going after the fleeing predators. Destroy them. The rest of us will begin the occupation. Remember: we are not glassing this planet.”
Bombers filled to the brim with aerosolized canisters of the Cure entered the atmosphere while shuttles ferrying thousands of troops followed them. I doubted that the entire population could have gotten into bunkers on such short notice so spraying them from above will get a large portion of them out of the way. The comms officer spoke up.
“We’re receiving a transmission from the colony’s surface, sir!”
I thought for a moment before deciding to accept. If the things were smart, we could negotiate an easier and more peaceful spread of the Cure. The image of a terrified Zeyzell appeared.
“I hope you’re contacting me to surrender,” I told it.
The disgusting creature looked on the edge of a nervous breakdown.
“I-I am Governor Zeyjin. I ask that you please spare us. If an otherwise unconditional surrender is what you require, I will do so.”
“Not to worry, predator. We’re not here to destroy you. We’re here to save you.”
“S-save us?”
“Indeed. For countless eons, your species and your species’ ancestors have eaten the flesh of innocent creatures and defiled what could have been stable ecosystems. But no longer. We’re here to cure you of such evil habits.”
The stupid predator gave me a befuddled look.
“What are you talking about?”
“You know damn well about the Cure. Everybody does at this point because of that damn Nikonus.”
The predator’s slow, stupid, meat-addled brain seemed to be unable to catch up.
“No, I don't. What “cure” are you talking about? Please, we just want to be left alone!”
It really didn’t know? How? No matter, this would only make my job easier. Hopefully.
“I’m afraid that’s out of the question, predator. I will accept your surrender as long as you do exactly as I say, immediately and without question.”
“Of course.”
“Good. First, I want you to give the order to evacuate every bunker on the planet.”
It’s eyes widened in horror.
“Y-You said you wouldn’t hurt anyone!”
“What did I say about asking questions? Unless you’d like to watch as we bomb the bunkers instead?”
Its eyes darted around as if searching for an alternative before sighing in defeat. It opened its mouth, presumably to capitulate, before it suddenly went rigid and collapsed out of the camera’s sight. A different Zeyzell took its place and stared at me with undisguised hatred and disgust.
“What are you doing?!” I demanded.
“Zeyjin is a fool and a coward,” it replied. “I know damn well that you won’t spare us.”
“Why would I lie to you things?” I spat. “If I wanted to kill you all, I would have just had the bunkers and cities obliterated!”
“You’re just playing an elaborate game to give us hope and then kill us all. You’re no better than those filthy child-eaters you hate.”
It had the gall to accuse us of that when they literally sent footage of one of their “medical officers” eating a Venlil pup?!
“You have just doomed many more of your people than if you’d just stayed complacent,” I growled. “This colony belongs to the Kolshian Commonwealth now, regardless of whether we meet any resistance.”
“You may have this colony, xeno, but you’ll have to pay for it in your own blood. May Maa consume your soul. If you creatures even have one.”
---------------
Memory Transcription Subject: 001, Deathwatch Guard
I stood in a briefing room, watching Edo and Judkid converse as I waited for news to come back from Pydoria Rusarth. My informant had already told me that the Federation fleet had arrived as expected. All that was left to do now was wait until news came back that it had been glassed. In the meantime, I focused on the conversation in front of me.
“Me and 001 have a plan, Judkid. There is no need to worry,” Edo was saying.
“I may be no military expert, Edo, but even I can realize that these strategies right here are severely flawed. For example, why would we redirect Pydoria Rusarth’s fleet instead of the ones over any of the other of the hundreds of colonies deeper in our space? It has left the planet vulnerable to attack.”
“As I’ve already told you,” Edo said patiently. “Pydoria Rusarth is the closest to the front lines and had a gigantic fleet. Our soldiers needed those reinforcements badly as soon as possible. Those cowardly xenos will never even think of attempting to attack us on our home turf.”
“That may be so, but look at these other fleet movements and battle plans,” he said, showing Edo a holopad. “They make no sense. Hell, if I didn’t know any better, I’d say Admiral Vajo is intentionally prolonging the war or something,” he finished with a chuckle.
A rather forced chuckle. I watched his eyes rake over Edo’s facial expressions, which, thankfully, didn’t give away anything incriminating. He was definitely at least a little suspicious.
“I should sure hope not,” Edo laughed. “We certainly don’t need any more disunity.”
“Of course not. I should go now.”
Edo flicked his tail in farewell and watched him leave the room.
“Shall I silence him now?” I asked
“No, I still have my uses for him. Now, when will our informant-”
As if summoned, the Deathwatch Guard I’d sent to oversee the skirmish contacted me. I accepted the call and stared into the frightened eyes of 1073.
“Has the colony been glassed?” I asked her.
“No, sir,” she responded.
“What?!” Edo growled
“They didn’t glass it. They’re occupying it with thousands of ships. I don't know why.”
Edo withdrew into his thoughts. I myself was puzzled by this turn of events. We could still twist this to rally the Unity, but I couldn’t find any reason they’d spare the inhabitants other than… too…
Oh, shit.
“Edo! The Cure!”
Edo snapped his head up in shock.
“You don’t think-” he began
“They must be! There’s no other explanation!”
If I was right, we were in an incredibly bad situation. The Federation was going to use the citizens to develop their own Cure for the Zeyzell, if they haven’t done so already. Edo disconnected from the Guard’s call and contacted Pydoria Rusarth’s redirected fleet and the one we’d organized to retake the colony. The High Captains in charge tried to formally greet us before Edo spat at them.
“Pydoria Rusarth is being conquered by the xenos!” he snarled. “Jump to subspace and stop them. NOW!"
He cut the connection and resorted to muttering to himself while pacing.

Memory Transcription Subject: Overseer Noctif, Zeyzell Insurgency Leader
I watched the gigantic fleet floating in the planet's orbit in awe. We'd really outdone ourselves. Many of our ships were ones lent to us by the Humans. According to them, only a small fraction of their Phoenix Fleet could be spared for us. If this was what counted as a small fraction for them, I suspected that their Fleet could wipe out practically anything that was ever unfortunate enough to come face to face with it.
Ferlinn walked up beside to stare as well.
"It's almost time, Admiral," I told the recently promoted officer.
"Indeed."
The past month had seen her icy demeanor begin to thaw. There was a brightness in her eyes that had once gone missing after the Battle of Pydoria Rusarth. The scars on her face had finally begun to disappear, a sign that the limited regen therapy that we'd been able to get for her was working. More footsteps behind me made me turn to see Lerza walking with a Human ambassador. Noah, his name was. The xeno looked exasperated at my lover's deranged ramblings.
"Look, Human. Gas weapons were banned by both of our species because of the cruel deaths they gave to their victims. Cold Gas is completely painless. You just get sleepy and then you die. That's it.”
“That may be so, but it’s the implications of using it that’s the problem. If we can toe this line, then what’s stopping us from just straight up crossing it later on? The answer from me is always no, and I will take the Kolshian’s Cure if the UN agrees.”
“You’re in a literal war against your species' extinction. I’m fairly certain that toeing a few lines here and there isn’t too much to ask.”
Noah shook his head and smiled down at me, offering his hand. I shook it in the Human custom.
“Lerza does have a point, you know. You need all the firepower you can muster against the Kolshians. Cold Gas is firepower, and it adheres to your Geneva Conventions’ and our Agreement of the Towers of Midnight’s restrictions on cruel and unusual weapons.”
“The answer is still no, Overseer. I hope that you share the same philosophy as me?”
I sighed.
“I cannot tell your government how to fight their war, but I can choose how to fight mine. Edo’s lust for power will doom my species. I need everything at my disposal. Even Cold Gas.”
“I am sorry to hear that, but you’re right. Just as you can’t tell us which lines we can and can’t cross, we can’t tell you. I only hope that this is where it stops.”
“As do I.”
Our conversation on the morals of war was interrupted by a Zeyzell aid rushing onto the bridge.
“Overseer! Overseer!”
469, who I’d appointed as leader of my guards, stepped in and stopped the aid from getting any further.
“Let him speak,” I ordered them.
“A new emergency transmission just came from Zeyzell-10! Kolshians on Pydoria Rusarth! They’ve taken the entire colony!”
Ferlinn jerked. That was her homeworld.
“How did they get there?” she demanded. “Edo’s insane, but Pydoria Rusarth was among the most well-defended non-Core World planets in the Unity. Nothing short of sending a ridiculous amount of ships should have been able to breach the blockade.”
“I don’t know, Admiral, but news is that they’ve won and are occupying the planet.”
An idea struck me. Before, our plan was to attack Zeyzell-10 with a small but somewhat sizable force to distract the Unity while our main fleet took a few dozen fringe colonies. But now, we could also swoop in and save Pydoria Rusarth, get the Unity’s populace on our side with our heroic actions, and hopefully keep the colony as well. We had enough ships to pull this off as long as we took some away from the Zeyzell-10 strike first.
“Ferlinn, how is the fleet?” I asked.
“Almost completely ready. Only a few minor preparations need to be made.”
“Good. Operation Frostbite is to begin as soon as possible.”
